M6s vs Herne Bay 3s – 5th Oct 13

Old Bordenians  1 – 10  Herne Bay

The first 5 minutes gave little indication of what was to come, with the OBs holding their own in the early exchanges. However some suicidal defending gifted the home side three goals in quick succession, including an unfortunate own-goal off John Twiselton’s stick. The rest of the half proved to be a complete disaster, with Bordenians continuing to give away possession to a speedy Herne Bay attack. The home side made good use of the visitors’ poor passing and added five further goals to lead 8-0 at half-time. The problem for the OBs was that all team members were contributing to their wayward passing problem.

A much more disciplined second half performance saw the OBs take the game to the home side, with improved effort and more assured passing and movement across the team. They were rewarded for their pressure when Campbell showed great composure to lift the ball over ‘keeper for a well deserved goal. By pushing forward in numbers, the OBs left themselves vulnerable to Herne Bay’s counter-attacks and it took several excellent saves from Marcus Shipley to keep the score down. The home side did add two further goals, but the visitors took some satisfaction from a second half performance more in line with their normal game.
