M1s vs Old Williamsonians – 9th Oct 13

Old Bordenian 3 – 2 Old Williamsonians

These matches always prove to be close and well thought and typically comes down to who wants it more, having drawn their previous two matches Bordenians were eager to get a win under their belts.

Both teams made good early chances with Williamsonians looking the more threatening in and indeed after a fiercely thought opening 20 minutes which saw Jason Waitt receive a yellow card it was Old Willies who caught OB’s on the counter attack to open the scoring and they remained a goal ahead going into half time.

A far more purposeful start to the second half put Old Willies on the back foot and within just 5 minutes of the restart Bordenians had levelled the scores with a well worked short corner finished off by Forshaw.  With OB’s now in the ascendancy it seemed that it would only be a matter of time until Bordenians added more goals however when Willies won a rare short corner they were first to react to the second ball following the initial save and converted from short range to take a surprise lead.  Having been in a similar position a few weeks previously against Ashford OB’s though it best to wait until the last three minutes of the game to make their move, a superb run down the left wing from Campbell found Waitt in the area who was then taken out by the Willies keeper resulting in a penalty flick which Waitt converted and then with less than 60 seconds left on the clock an enticing ball across the front of the Willies goal resulted in an own goal and gave Bordenians all three points.

This weekend Bordenians come up against top of the table and yet to be beaten Folkestone side and so this represents a great opportunity for Bordenians to close the gap at the top.  On Sunday they play hosts to Upminster in the second round of the NOW: Pensions Trophy, push pack is 13:30 at Borden Grammar School
