M1s vs Folkestone – 16th Oct 13

Folkestone 1 – 2 Old Bordenians

Although there has been one too many draws this season for OB’s liking they are unbeaten in all competitions since their defeat in the opening league game, travelling to top of the table Folkestone who themselves are unbeaten in the league would make for a close game.

Bordenians started the more confident of the two teams keeping good possession of the ball and creating some clear cut opportunities early on, mid way through the first half another carefully constructed attack resulted in a penalty corner which was clinically dispatched by Mark Forshaw.  Folkestone appeared to have little answer to the OB’s style of play as they continued to threaten the Folkestone goal with every attack, it was once again a penalty corner that allowed OB’s to extend their lead this time thanks to a strike from Paul ‘Pebbles’ Stone who’s shot proved to powerful for the keeper.  Bordenians went into half time two goals to the good.

In the early stages of the second half it appeared to be business as usual for Bordenians however despite creating more good chances they failed to extend their lead and frustration set in, this brief spell where concentration had lapsed allowed Folkestone a rare opportunity in front of goal which they capitalised on to half the deficit.  With 20 minutes still remaining Folkestone piled on the pressure and Bordenians struggled to cope, a string of great saves from Man of the Match Sunjit Atwal kept Folkestone at bay and although chances for OB’s were few and far between they were denied a stone wall penalty flick when great work from Campbell culminated in him being taken by the keeper, nevertheless Bordenians stood strong and ground out the result closing the gap at the top of the table.

The gap at the top of the table has been narrowed to just two points with four teams all sitting on 14 points meaning every point and every goal is crucial, this Saturday Bordenians play hosts to local rivals Gore Court in what is sure to be a passionate game, push back is 13:30 at Borden Grammar School and all support is welcome.
