Mens 1st vs Holcombe – 14th Dec 13

Old Bordenian 1st X1 2 – 0 BBHC 1st XI

The final game before the Christmas break is always an important game and usually filled with drama due to the added pressures and this tie against Holcombe 2nds was no exception. OBs started strongly, applying pressure to the opposition early, and managed to create a few chances which led to little trouble for the opposition’s goalkeeper. As the first half progressed, Holcombe saw more of the ball and started to ask questions of the OBs’ resolve which were answered when they scored to go 1-0 up at half time. Knowing they had it in them, OBs were not daunted by the goal deficit and looked to return the favour in the second half, however it was not to be, and with Holcombe scoring from a well worked short corner routine, this game was going to be tough. Trying with eveyr option other than the correct one, OBs then found themselves three down five minutes later following a well finished Holcombe goal from Tom Moore. With twenty minutes left and 3-0 down, something needed to change, and luckily it did, when Mark Forshaw finished a short corner. At 3-1 OBs saw a glimmer of hope, however captain Jason Waitt was yellow carded shortly after for disagreeing with the umpire’s decision, putting them on the back foot. Sticking to their guns, OBs held fast and with Waitt back on the pitch OBs scored another courtesey of James Elkin bamboozling the Holcs defence and keeper with a fine leg spin shot. With this in mind, OBs finally sprung into some sort of life and managed to get the third, even with Waitt back off the pitch following a second yellow card. The team are looking forward to the Christmas break, time to re-group, rest and plan the second half of the season, now being five points adrift from the top of the table.
