Mens 1st vs Ashford – 1st Feb 14

Old Bordenian 1st X1 1 – 4 Ashford 1st XI

Old Bordenians hosted Ashford in a top of the table clash that saw both teams entering the game on level points. Ashford pressed Old Boys hard from the start but did not prevent the home side from keeping possession and outletting effectively, creating opportunities in front of goal. Bordenians failed to make their chances count and Ashford scored a nicely worked goal on the break. Ashford soon doubled their lead and were creating good opportunities which could have seen a higher score line but for Sunjit Atwal in the Old Boys’ goal. The start of the second half saw Bordenians concede a third despite having opportunities of their own. Finally the pressure and work rate from the home side paid off as Michael Neame received a pass, turned his defender and calmly slotted home. This was followed by a fifteen minute passage of play that saw OBs dominate possession and create chances that could not beat the Ashford defence. With the game stretched by Old Boys searching for a goal, Ashford scored a fourth, again on a breakaway shortly before the end of the game. Next up is an away game against top of the league Tonbridge Wells.
