M5 3 v 2 Marden – 21st Feb 15

Marden 2 – 3 OBHC M5s

After last week’s impressive win, the 5s’ mix of youth and experience did not gel as well against a physically strong Marden side. The 5s’ deserved their early lead, coming from persistent work by Rob Shaw. Marden soon got back into the game, however, and Bordenians always looked stretched at the back throughout the rest of the game. The lead was restored before half-time from a well worked move finished by Dom Byrne. The game continued to be end to end in the second half. Although the 5s’ lost some of their shape, they continued to press the Marden goal with numerous short corner opportunities which the Marden ‘keeper did well to keep out. Eventually, Bordenians took advantage of a short corner, resulting from Marden sportingly owning up to a foot, though even then it took a second phase follow up by Dom Byrne and a deft flick over the keeper’s pads to finally get the ball in the net. Overall The 5s did well to consolidate their recent set of good results.
