Old Bordenian 1st XI – 2 v Holcombe 1A – 3

Old Bordenians come into this game knowing they had to play as they have over the last couple of weeks to get a result out of this game against top of the table Holcombe HHH hhhh. The game started with Holcombe taking most of the play, showing why they lead the league table. The first goal came from them, a solo effort by their forward who finished with a reverse stick shot. Old Boys had a couple of opportunities to score but were unable to convert them, and Holcombe grabbed a second goal from a short corner, a drag flick that came off the defender on the post and went in. Old Boys scored a goal before half-time, a long pass into the D with pin-point accuracy and put in by a diving Mike Willis. The second half saw Old Boys have more of the ball, creating more opportunities and were rewarded for their work. From a short corner the ball was stopped on the line by the use of the defenders body, resulting in a penalty flick, to be converted by top goal scorer James Henley to level the score at 2-2. Holcombe immediately hit back from another short corner that was dragged into the top corner. Old Boys kept pushing to get the equalising goal again but were unable to do so. Old Boys have some big games over the next two weeks and points are needed to secure a comfortable league position.
