Old Bordenians  5 – 3  Gore Court

The OBHC Mens 1st XI put together two fantastic performances over the weekend to push them up to 4th in the league and through to the second round of the National Trophy. The league game vs local rivals Gore Court proved to be an exciting match with end to end stuff from both teams however Old Boys showed more desire to seal the win by chasing down every ball working hard as a team. New Head Coach Huw Stevens was “delighted” with the result for a number of reasons but most of all for the “process with which we closed play down, forcing the opposition into situations which we could take advantage of“. He then went on to say “…lets not get carried away we’re no where near the finished article still plenty to work on so the boys will get their heads down and will work hard“. Goals from Mark Forshaw, Tom Richford, Paul Stone (2), & Iain Burwood combined with two stand out performances from Al Campbell and new signing Tom Richford it was a solid performance. Old Bordenians  3 – 2  West Hampstead

With the win under their belt from the previous day Old Boys went into the Sundays game with their tails up and an opportunistic feeling as they started their cup bid for the 2016/17 season. Again starting strong and hassling for the full 70mins the pressure was never let off the visitors who soon cracked as the home side opened up the score sheet no sooner after that was another scored making it 2-0 within 20mins. West Hampstead pulled one back just before half time however Old Boys were firmly in control. The 2nd half proved a tough battle of mental and physical fitness as legs started to tire however showing true grit and determination a 3rd goal was provided however the lead was cut short as West Hampstead pulled another back. For the remaining 10-15mins Old Boys held on to their lead comfortably still creating chances with Paul Stone hitting the post and just putting one wide. Club Chairman Alan Wilson commented “…what a superb weekend for the team and the club, the boys showed great courage and determination and did us proud…”. Click here to read the match report.
