M2 v Uni of Kent – 2nd December 2017

Old Bordenian 2nd XI – 6

University of Kent 1st XI – 1

After a very disappointing result against Burnt Ash last week, Bordenians were looking to bounce back against two places higher Kent University.

Bordenians started playing into the low winter’s sun on a slippery surface and immediately got traction in the form of a goal from a deflection by Mark Forshaw. Bordenians knew they did not have the three points yet and continued to apply pressure, this paying off with a second goal, by Dom Byrne and followed by the third, from Steve Dale. The scoring was not over yet as Josh Willis found a fourth goal to cap off the first half.

Skipper David Wherrell commented at half time that the team were performing well but reminded them to not get complacent.

With heads high, Bordenians pushed hard early in the second half as they did not want to stop applying pressure. This worked and the Kent goalkeeper was green carded for kicking the ball outside the D. A penalty corner was awarded and the kicking back made a wonder save keeping the score at 4-0. With the keeper back on after his suspension, Bordenians were awarded a slew of penalty corners and then a penalty stroke after a foot on the line. Sanj Atwal stepped up and converted, 5-0 to Old Bordenianss.

Kent managed to get a consolation goal after some confusion over an umpire’s decision in the Bordenian 23, but this was short lived as Rich Phillips made it 6 for Bordenians.

Final score, Bordenians 6, University of Kent 1.
