M1 v Eastbourne – 20th January 2018

Eastbourne – 2
Old Bordenian 1st X1 – 2
Old Bordenians made the long trip to top of the table Eastbourne knowing that they must come away with something from the game in order to keep pressure on the league leaders. The opening period was very competitive and fast paced with both teams creating chances which neither was able to convert. The deadlock was nearly broken when Alex Campbell danced his way through midfield only to be denied a wonderful solo goal by an equally brilliant defensive stop on the Eastbourne goal-line. Eastbourne did eventually capitalise on one of their opportunities and went a goal up just before the break before doubling their advantage shortly into the second half through a well worked short corner. Old Boys continued to compete and, with four minutes left, were able to force a short corner which Sam Lund converted. With time fast running out, Old Boys threw everything possible at Eastbourne and, in the games dying seconds, Jason Waitt found Richard Cooper in space with an aerial, from which he was able to win a short corner at the final whistle. Knowing it was the last play of the game, Sam Lund kept his composure to score the equaliser and give Old Boys a deserved point, which, in the circumstances, felt like a victory.
