Maidstone 1st XI – 3
Old Boys, second in the league table, went into the match against Maidstone knowing only a win would keep the pressure on Eastbourne at the top of the table. In a highly competitive match between two of the best teams in the division both teams created early chances but it was Maidstone that opened the scoring from a stroke. Old Boys struck back quickly through the first of many Jason Waitt short corners but Maidstone again established the lead before the break. OId Boys came out hunting for the win in the second half and through a stroke and penalty corner Waitt completed his hat-trick and gave Old Boys the lead for the first time. With just four minutes remaining, Old Boys only had to close out the match but some naivety let Maidstone break through with Joe Elgar in goal unable to stop the stroke that he had given away. Now with just three minutes left and the season on the line, Old Boys dug deep and from a quick attack won another short corner which Waitt again converted to regain the lead. With the final minute being run down Old Boys finally put the win beyond any doubt with yet another short corner goal.
