Old Bordenian HC had the great pleasure of opening their new artificial grass pitch on Saturday.

It was a full day of events, with both ladies’ teams playing their first league games of the season, two games for the men and a coaching master-class for the juniors and minis delivered by current England and GB international, and Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner, Grace Balsdon.

The event was attended by various organisations which had contributed to the funding of the project, by the main club sponsor, Beadles Skoda, and other club sponsors, by representatives of Kent Hockey Umpires Association and by Vice Presidents of the Club.
At midday, Grace Balsdon cut the ribbon to officially open the pitch.

Club Chairman Alan Wilson said: ”We started the planning for this project 7 years ago. As many will know, raising funding for an amateur sports club is not an easy task. It was without doubt an uphill struggle, but we did it. A great deal of self-help was involved as the majority of the funding has been contributed by Old Bordenian HC and Borden Grammar School, and they are to be congratulated for that. I hope that club members and pupils enjoy this magnificent facility which they are so fortunate to have.”
