M3 – Marden Russets – 24th November 2018

Old Bordenians 3rd X1 – 4

Marden Russets – 1

Welcoming Marden Russets, the Old Bordenian 3rd team knew that this would be another tough game of this league. Both teams were only separated by a few points. From the whistle it was obvious this game was going to live up to expectations, with both teams battling hard for possession of the ball. It was the visitors who were awarded the first short corner and it was through their strong defence that the home side cleared their D quickly and pushed forward to attack. Old Boys continued to push harder and it was not long before Luke Williams was able to slide the ball past the ‘keeper, giving the home side the first goal. OBs attacked again and were awarded a short corner. Richard Phillips received the ball at the top of the D and dragged it into the D and fired it past the keeper. Knowing that they needed to continue their level of attack from the first half, it was a surprise to Obs when early on in the first half, Marden confused the defence and got a goal past ‘keeper Josh Anderton. As always seems to be the way, the 3rds needed this kick at some point during a game to get their heads back into gear. With this reminder of the drive they needed, OBs won the ball at the half way line they were able to move the ball around long enough to giveand with some slick passing, gave Luke Williams the chance to confront the keeper and trick him to send the ball the opposite side to what he was defending. With the visitors continuing to get frustrated with themselves and with the umpires, it was Cieran Higgins who received a long ball from defence and with a delicate lift sent the ball over the prostrate dropped keeper, giving the home side the reward of a 4-1 win. Next week away against Ashford.
