M3 v Gravesham – 9th February 2019

Gravesahm – 2

Old Bordenian 3rd X1 – 4

Old Boys travelled to Gravesend this week full of confidence off the back of two superb performances against the league’s top two teams. Playing conditions were not ideal with a strong first half head-wind and Old Boys struggled to get a foothold and any sort of rhythm in the game. Gravesend pushed high from the start and were doing to Old Boys what OBs had done to the opposition the previous two weeks. After a few early chances had been kept out, Gravesend did eventually go ahead around the half hour mark following a quick counter-attack. Old Boys managed to step up slightly and go into the half-time break only one down. Old Boys came out in the second half a completely different team. With the wind behind them and renewed vigour, the Old Boys managed to get their passing game together and soon drew level through Craig , thanks to a great assist from Gary Pointer. This goal not only seemed to give Old Boys an extra push but also saw Gravesend crumble under the onslaught and it was not long before Stone bagged a second following some excellent work from Jacob Birch. Old Boys were not happy sticking with that and pushed forward in waves. It was not long before Ciaran Higgins bagged the third with a deflected shot. Old Boys wanted more and soon got it from a well worked short corner and a drag flick from Richard Phillips. Although Gravesend managed to get a consolation second, the score finished 4-2 to Old Boys, a result that has pushed them up to fourth in the league with six games remaining and they will be hoping to continue their winning ways at home against Folkestone next week.
