M2 v Sevenoaks – 30th November 2019

Sevenoaks 3 rd X1 – 2
Old Bordenian 2 nd X1 – 1
The men’s 2nd XI made a cold trip to Holy Bush Lane in the late afternoon, looking to
bounce back from their heavy defeat to Canterbury 3rds, in what turned out to be a very
competitive game.
OBs started strongly against a very high Sevenoaks press and managed to hold onto the
ball well, finding Dan gunner high up the pitch several times. Steve Bond however felt he
needed a rest and earned himself a green card for a strong tackle in the middle of the pitch,
putting OBs down to 10 and on the back foot.
OBs were unlucky not to earn corners in the first half, James Henley, Sammzi Bahrawi and
Steve Dale several times having got the ball in and around the D. However, a moment of
sloppy marking cost OBs a goal; Jake Anderton came out to meet the forward for an
excellent first save but unfortunately this put him out of position for the second shot when the
ball fell to another forward for an easy tap in.
Not to be deterred, OBs came out with determination in the second half, earning several
corners which were expertly saved by the ‘keeper. Sevenoaks managed a second, again a
follow-up shot after an initial save by Jake Anderton.
OBs still wanted to get something out of the match and upped their pressure on Sevenoaks’
defence, earning further corners, long and short. But Sevenoaks defended well and
managed several strong counter-attacks.
A late ball high up the pitch found its way to Steve Dale who after a quick 1-2 with Dan
Gunner found himself clawing back a goal for OBs. Old Bords continued their pressure,
working hard to get a point out of the game, but alas were unable to and the final whistle
ended the game 2-1 to Sevenoaks.
The men’s 2nd XI play their final game before the Christmas break next week away to
Tunbridge Wells at Kent College.
