M5 v Marden Russets – 30th November 2019

Marden Russets Men’s 5 th X1 -1
Old Bordenian Men’s 5 th X1 – 2
Old Bordenian Men’s 5ths made the trip to Marden in their last game before the mid
season break, to play Marden Russets Men’s 5s. With the OBHC goalkeeper delayed in
traffic, the visitors found themselves in the very unusual situation of starting the game
with 11 outfield players. Marden took advantage of this to take an early lead when the
OBs’ defence failed to clear their lines. Shortly after, the visitors’ goalkeeper arrived and
OBs found themselves back on level terms courtesy of Paul Ross-Gower with a lobbed
finish following a fine through ball from Lewis Shaw. This proved to be the last scoring
act of the half and the teams went in to the break on level terms. The second half started
fairly evenly, but it was OBs who took the lead thanks to a fine finish from Neil Willis from
the top of the D. Marden then put the visitors under increasing pressure, but a fine
rearguard action saw OBs through to a 2-1 win and retain their place at the top of the
table.
