M5 v Sutton Valence – 7th March 2020

Sutton Valence Mens 3 rd X1 – 3
Old Bordenians Men’s 5 th XI – 1
Old Bordenian Men’s 5th XI made the trip to Sutton Valence to play the hosts 3s in a top of
the table clash, with the home side sitting top of the table, with a 4 point lead. OBHC needed
a win to take the title race to the final weekend and a dominant first half performance saw
them go in to the half-time break with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of Paul Ross Gower. The lead
should have been greater, but the visitors could not take advantage of a number of good
chances created. The second half saw Sutton Valence put OBHC under increasing pressure,
but, with the visitors looking like they were weathering the storm, a misjudgment in defence
presented the hosts with an equaliser. This breathed new life into the home side and it was not
long before they took the lead from a short corner. OBHC continued to search for an
equaliser, but, in their quest, Sutton Valence caught them on the break to increase their
advantage. OBs continued to look for a way back into the game, but this was ultimately in
vain and the home side ran out 3-1 winners, wrapping up the league title in the process.
OBs finish their season with a home game against Marden Russets and having guaranteed
themselves second place last weekend, they will be looking to finish off a successful season
in suitable style.
