After the disappointment of the first league defeat, Old Boys travelled round the M25 to Amersham and Chalfont in the first round of the EH Championships Men’s Tier 2. After picking up a couple of injuries the previous day, it opened the opportunity for a 1 st XI debut for Gary Pointer and he did not disappoint. Old Boys started in calm fashion, passing the ball nicely through the team creating a number of half chances for the forward line and slowly building pressure throughout the half. A&C did have a couple of breaks but struggled on an unfamiliar pitch that was very heavily covered in sand. Old Boys capitalised on continued pressure just before half time when James Henley stepped up to covert a stroke. Old Boys continued to dominate possession in the second half and as the home side tired were able to put the game to bed. Firstly a Brad Barrett cross-field ball found Michael Neame in space to drill home to double the lead. Mike Willis added a third before Iain Burwood rounded off the match with a deserved fourth from a short corner rebound in the closing
minutes. The team found true resilience to come back from defeat the day before and there were positive performances across the team as OBs progress on into the second round.
