M1 v Holcome – 1st April 2017

Old Bordenian Men’s 1st XI – 2
Holcombe Men’s 2nd XI – 1
Old Bordenians finished the season against a strong Holcombe side with a resolute 2-1 victory that helped Old Boys finish in the top 3 in the league. The Holcombe team came into the game with little to play for other than pride but were determined to push the Old Boys team all the way and were able to create pressure which meant Old Boys’ usual fluid style was not immediately evident. It was not until midway through the first half that the Old Boys began to get a foothold in the game and were able to open the scoring through a deft deflection from Jason Waitt. A second goal shortly followed, this time from a Waitt drag-flick which gave the Old Boys some breathing room at 2-0 going into half time. The second half was a lot more disjointed but both sides created some half chances, unfortunately player of the season Sam Lund could not add to his impressive goal-scoring haul. Holcombe did find the net eventually, with just 2 minutes remaining, but Old Boys held out for the victory.
