M2 v Anchorians – 30th September 2017

Old Bordenian 2nd XI – 4
Gillingham Anchorians 1st XI – 4
Bordenians opened the score sheet quickly with a close range flick from Dominic Byrne
into the roof of the net while the Anchorian keeper was scrambling on the floor.
Bordenians gained a second, claimed by Paul Stone after a controversial umpire
decision, putting Bords further ahead. This did not last long however as Anchorians
upped the pressure and gained a penalty stroke after a foot on the line during a short
corner. A further goal from Anchorians saw the score line even up at two all. Anchorians
continued to apply pressure and gained a third after a counter-attack, putting them
ahead. A stroke was then awarded at the other end of the pitch which Stone took and
was saved by the keeper as he touched it onto the post. The Old Boys refused to give
up and pushed forward time and again. Good link up play down the right side saw Steve
Dale get one back for the boys in red. A scrappy patch of play saw Justin Hudson and
Sanj Atwal each receive a card, putting Old Boys down to 9 men and giving away the
third penalty stroke of the game, which they successfully converted, placing them ahead
yet again. Legwork by Byrne, Sammzi Bahrawy and Stone in the forward line put
pressure on the Anchorian defence and after a slew of penalty corners something had to
give. A deflection in front of the Anchorian keeper in the dying minutes by Stone brought
Old Boys level at 4-4 but they were unable to find a winner.
