M2 v Herne Bay – 7th October 2017

Old Bordenian 2nd XI – 2
Herne Bay 1st XI – 1
Old Bordenian men’s 2nd XI’s first Away fixture of the 2017/18 season saw a trip to the
seaside for a chilly, windy game against Herne Bay. Unlike last week it was a slow start
for Bordenians as the first ten minutes were spent getting used to the sandy pitch. The
first half saw several short corners for Bords and many chances to get ahead with Herne
Bay unable to make connections with their long aerial balls from the back. Despite all
these chances Bordenians were unable to score and the first half ended goalless. The
second half saw more chances for Old Bordenians and a rebound from a short corner
was put in the net by Justin Hudson. Herne Bay replied not long after from a short
corner. Old Boys dug deep and pushed through the wind, cold and rain and found the
net once again, this time a deflection by Rich Phillips after a crash ball in from Andy
Burnage. Herne Bay kept applying pressure but the Old Boys were able to soak it up
until the end of the game.
